Rediscovering our backyard in a Mustang: customer review

My partner’s birthday was approaching fast and like most things, I left buying him a present for the last moment. Of course, the first place I looked was online where I tried to find something that is a bit different than just chocolate, a pair of socks or a bottle of whiskey.

Just as I was about to give in and get something easy I had the idea to hit the road. We both love getting out to explore, but we haven’t had the chance in a while so renting a car to make it more exciting and a little special felt like a great idea. Here in Christchurch we have the luxury of some amazing drives right on our doorstep, and even in poor weather it can be relaxing enough to take a nice drive somewhere for the day.

Because I wanted something with a little more power than a Corolla, I looked around online and found that Touchdown specialise in boutique car rentals. Picking the car was the trickiest part because they offer anything from convertible minis up to Land Cruisers that you can take to the snow, but eventually I settled on a 2018 Mustang because I knew my partner would like it.

We picked up the car from the Commodore Hotel, which is pretty handy if you’ve flown in to Christchurch because it’s only three minutes from the airport and ten minutes from town. The staff at Touchdown showed us our car which was all set to go, highlighting its safety features, mod-cons and how to operate the sunroof.

My partner was excited to hit the road and our first stop was breakfast at Lyttelton Harbour. The car was so smooth along the way, and form there we set off to Akaroa. The Mustang handled the winding climb to the crater rim with ease and even in the poor conditions we both felt safe the whole way.

We’re pretty lucky here in New Zealand. We can drive sweeping curves, mountain passes and long straights through such scenic countryside in only a couple of hours. And to do it in the comfort and safety of a sports car was so much better than the whiskey and chocolate I would have purchased otherwise.

Next time you’re stuck on a gift idea, seriously consider renting a car from Touchdown Rentals. Thanks again to everyone that helped make my partner’s birthday one to remember!
